Nessmuk pattern knife forged from 52100 high carbon steel with cocobolo Natural wood handle.
Total length 235 mm, Blade length 110 mm. Measured hardness 58 Rhc. Blade thickness at the spine- 4.9mm. Full flat grind.
The Nessmuk pattern is a classic outdoor enthusiast, first attributed to a Mr George W Sears who was pioneering in exploring the outdoors and writing of his experiences in 1880s America.
This knife is based on the origional pattern of a blade with a pronounced belly suited to skinning game and of a size to make it useful for most camp chores. I have made a pronounced finger choil in the handle to prevent the users grip slipping onto the cutting edge.
Constructed with 52100 high carbon steel for its tough and edge retention properties and with a full flat grind to provide and emphasis on sharpness and performance, paired with an ease of sharpening and maintance.
This blade has been forged by hand in my coal forge and I have retained forge marks at the ricasso and spine of the blade to demonstrate its providance - this means that there is a unique pattern along the grind line that will not be the same as any other blade in the world.
I recommend that this blade is dried and oiled after use to protect against rust and staining.
I have selected natural cocobolo wood handles for its stunning, beautiful grain that is unlike anything else. I also use cocobolo because of its its high density and oily wood nature which means that it is able to resist absorbtion of water more successfully than other types of wood making it a functional material. I recommend that it is treated periodically with boiled linseed oil to nourish and protect the wood.
The sheath is handmade, hand carved shoulder butt leather that has been double stitched for durability then treated with a beeswax based wax to nourish but protect the leather. I recommend that the user also applys a coat of nourishing wax or leather polish to protect the leather.
